This page is a guide to applying a visitor or business visa to United States of America
which will enable you to take the USMLE step 2CS,step 3, attend a conference/course , present a paper or even for a holiday.
- This is advice only. Do not take it for granted. Few things needed before you
should apply for the visa
- Secure a good job. ideally a rotation /GP vts or atleast a six months job
- Do not apply in UK if you are still on a visitor visa
- Booking appointment is essential and all visas are done after interviews or over the counter
hence you need to appear in person.
- Visa appointments can be made by calling toll number ( 1.30 ponds a minute). this can
be found at www.usembassy.org.uk
- You can also apply for visiting a relative if you have one. You need to have a sponsorship
declaration from them but its not essential.
- You can apply for attending a course or conference. You need all the documents including
your travel schedule, hotel booking etc
- You can apply for visa if you are going for a holiday. you need a holiday schedule, tickets,
hotel bookings etc
- If you going for the USMLE steps, ECFMG( ie education commission for foreign medical graduates)
will issue an invitation letter if you need one for step 2CS and Step 3
I feel these are the essential documents
- Your job contract
- your wage slip
- Passport
- Your tenancy agreement/mortgage.
- bank statements
- If you have taken a loan or any other commitments its useful
- Your exam schedule/holiday schedule/hotel stay etc
- make sure you have all the paperwork or else you are looking for trouble
you can also apply from India but its difficult to get an appointment these days
make sure you make an early appointment as there is a long waiting list
Do not rush to apply for visa . try to pass the step 1 and 2 CK before applying for the
visa
good luck
